Microsoft to release web based Office

There are a lot of desktop applications go online nowadays. For example, we have Sumo Paint, PhotoShop Express, and Google Docs. Now, Microsoft announced that they are extending Office to the browser.

They will provide users lightweight version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. With these web based applications, user can use a browser to create and edit documents.

Microsoft will deliver Office Web applications through Office Live. With the release of Office Live, Microsoft will competes with other famous web based office provider such as Google Docs and Zoho Office.

The Color Picker is a free tool for designer to quickly grab the color code from anywhere on the screen.

Suppose you are a designer, and you found a color which you may use it in future. So what will you do? Print screen and paste the screenshot in any graphic editor and then use the color picker tool to grab the color code right? But, it is very troublesome that you need to repeat so much steps each time you want to save a new color.

Here comes a handy tool which will makes the job easy. The Color Picker, which is a free but powerful color picker. Whenever you found a color, just open the application, point your mouse to the color, and left click it. Thats all, the application will automatically save the color into the color palette and you can use it anytime.

The application provide both RGB and HEX code. The color palette will save your favorite colors and you can retrieve the color code anytime.

If you are a web/graphic designer, i think you may need this great tool, as it simplified the color capture process and it store your favorite colors also.

Download free Photoshop ebook from SitePoint

For a limited time, SitePoint is giving free copy of Photoshop ebook called “The Photoshop Anthology”. This book will cover different web design techniques by using Photoshop.

What you need to do is just provide your email address, and they will send you the download link. There are two format of ebook (high resolution and low resolution). I suggest that you download the high resolution version, although it may take longer time. But it is worth as you get higher quality of graphics and images.

G.ho.st – Global hosted operating system

G.ho.st is a free web-based Operating System, a virtual computer that can be accessed by anywhere using a web browser. It provide every user a Virtual Computer (VC) which will include the personal settings, desktop, files, and even applications.

G.ho.st Similar with Joose, G.ho.st is an online desktop with an operating system and a virtual environment to store your personal settings. They provide up to 3GB storage for files and 3GB for G.ho.st mail. You can access your virtual desktop anywhere as long as you have internet access and a web browser.

G.ho.st hosted a lot of applications and services, which can run immediately without installation. Most of the applications are online services which are also free. You can view the complete applications list here. User can create a single-sign in for services which use frequently, such as Google Docs. They provide a ftp fr each user so that they can download/upload anything easier. For browsing and email, G.ho.st comes with its own browser and email client which has a pretty interface. The screenshot below shows G.ho.st browser application:

G.ho.st is still in public alpha and it takes long time to load the application. But, its interface really attract me. Although it provide a lot of applications and services, but it is too few compare with desktop applications. I hope that they can try to integrate as many as online applications in future.

Clicky – Web 2.0 Analytics

Clicky is an easy to use in-depth web analytics and statistics package. They offer tons of features which let you analyze and track almost everything your readers done!
