Some of us installed and use more than one browser on our system. For example, i am using Opera, Firefox, IE, and Google Chrome. So, managing my bookmarks across different browsers bring a lot of trouble to me. Luckily, there is an free application called Transmute, which can copy your bookmarks from one browser and then export it to another browser.

Simply choose the source and target browser and click the Export button. Currently, Transmute support Google Chrome, Firefox, IE, Opera and Safari. the advance settings allow you to create a backup for your bookmarks and append timestamp at your export file.
This application require .NET Framework to run. Before performing any conversion, remember to close all browsers, else you will get error messages. It is because your browsers will lock the bookmarks database and prevent any write action on it.

Bookmarks are very important for everyone. We use it to store important URL and a lot of interesting websites. Without bookmark, i can’t imagine how we are going to remember the URLs.
So, what happen if our Firefox’s bookmarks suddenly disappear? One of my friend’s bookmarks suddenly disappear (i am not sure the actual reason, but i suspect is cause by improper PC shut down). So, how are we going to restore the bookmarks?
Firefox actually do the job for us. So, where are the backup bookmarks and how we restore them? Follow the steps below and you can easily retrieve them:
- Go to “C:\Documents and Settings\(your account)\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\”. Replace the bracket with your account name.
- You will see a folder with random name. Go inside the folder and you will see another folder “bookmarkbackups“. Here is the place Firefox store your previous bookmarks.
- Pick the latest bookmarks, copy it.
- Go up one level, paste the bookmarks that you just copied.
- Rename the file to “bookmarks.html”.
- Done. Now your bookmarks should be restored.

PathSync is an interactive directory synchronizer for windows and it can analyze 2 directories and show user a list of differences between the two directories.

The synchronization process is pretty straight forward. You choose 2 different folders for synchronization. You can then select the action, either Bidirectional, Local->Remote, or Remote->Local. Then, you click the Analyze button and the application will show you the differences between the 2 folders.
Let say the files only appear in the Remote directory, then you can synchronize them by copy the remote files to the local directory. You can also click on the individual file to choose other options, or select No Action.
This is a good tool if you want to do daily backup on your documents. The comparison is pretty fast and you can choose different actions for different files. The most important is, this application is a free ware and it comes with its source code.
