USB Write Protector is a portable utilities which can write-protect your USB flash drive so that virus/spyware can’t copy itself to the drive.

The main cause of viruses are USB flash drive. These viruses tend to copy themselves to the flash drive whenever system detected new device plug in. I still remember there are some old USB drives that come with write protect feature. But unfortunately most of the new flash drive don’t come with such feature, maybe the manufacturers want to cut down the cost?

So, the only way to protect our USB flash drive is enable the write protect through our own PC. With USB Write Protector, you can turn on/off the write protect to a USB flash drive.

Open this application before you plug any flash drive into your computer. After you turn on the write protection, you will not be able to write any files to the flash drive, or delete any files from it. You must always unplug and plug your flash drive if you want to turn on/off the write protection.

Note: This utilities will not write any files to your flash drive, it just make sure your flash drive is write protected in this cumputer only. So, when you plug the flash drive into another PC, your flash drive may still infacted by viruses. So, the beast way to protect your flash drive is to install this application to all computers that you may use.

free fix of compact flashrotect your USB drive to protect it from virus

Hello dude, I like your software. The problem is that, when, I plug it in another computer, it is prone to viruses. For example, before executing that application on the new computer, you must plug in the drive before opening that application. The moment the drive is inserted, the moment the drive is infected. Can you devise a plan the will overtake the execution of this program before the intervention of the viruses. I will suggest that you will include and autorun.inf application that will execute the write protection first before the viruses attack inside. If the user wants to write files on it, he/she will be notified. If you are not the author, please contact him.

i like this program but Joe is right!!! can you add somting that makes the USB safe buy its self. like locking your usb. so when you pluge your usb in to any pc it will work like a SD card locked/write protected.

  • drew

thanks but im with JOE!!! do you know of any software that i can put on my usb to protectit from infection? maybe lock it of writeprotect it?

Why not just use a dummy file to fiill in all the free space on your thumb drive. That way the virus will not have any room to infect. use NOD Dummy File creator. Simple, free and works like a charm.

can also use fsutil built into windows already to create the dummy file to fill up your usb. I use this command line.
fsutil file createnew dummy xxx ( where xxx is the remaining free space on the thumbdrive.

    Joe
May the force be with u always.

i agree with joe.. thats the flow i found too..

but i disagree with autorun.inf coz, some people who’s not that good with computers might trigger a virus that executes via autorun.inf so the best way is to buy a flash drive with a write protect feature..

It is easy to use in Windows XP but does not work in windows 7

I think that this soft is a waste time, because it only protects your USB disk or drive on your local machine, if you plug in another computer, what then? (of course it will be infected)
    Today’s Anti-virus solutions protects USB resources automatically…
There must be another solution. USB Drive must be protected in every computer you plug in!

I’ve created small utility for protecting usb drives. It creates or modify dummy file with takes all free space and there is no more space for viruses – http://code.google.com/p/usbdummyprotect/

there are literally tons of spywares and viruses lurking on the internet so we should always be careful when donwloading stuffs:~”

I’d buy a drive with a write protect switch. I don’t think a virus needs free space to infect an executable already on the drive, and if a utility can modify a dummy file I would think a virus could be made to do the same thing. You should be able to plug this drive into the most infected PC on the planet and if the switch on the drive is set to read only it should be fine. Better than trusting software I would think. A well written virus might compromise the software protection, it won’t hop out and flip the switch.
