NoVirusThanks is a web based virus scanning tool. NoVirusThanks offer a free service that scan suspicious files for possible presence of virus, worms, trojans and any other kind of malware using several Anti-Virus engines.

To use NoVirusThanks, simply upload your file and press the Submit File button. The system will then put your file in the queue. The scanning process took me more than 5 minutes even though there are only 6 files in the queue. But, i am satisfied with the overall process. It will give you a link which contains the report of the scanning process.
The maximum file size supported is 20MB. You may try to use the Search MD5 feature if you lazy to upload your file. Use any software to compute the MD5 hash and paste to to the service. It will show you the analysis of the file if that file was analyzed before.

Sometimes, when you want to open your PDF or Word documents at others’ computer but unfortunately the comuter doesn’t have such application to open them (although this is very rare case).
So, what you going to do? If your document is PDF format, you may download Foxit Reader to open it. But if the document is Word format, how you are going to open it? Download the OpenOffice and install at that computer? It is impossible for us to download the whole application for just want to open a file right?

So, maybe you can try the online File Viewer for PDF, Word and PosiScript service. You may need to upload the documents from your local drive, but i am not sure about the maxuimum file size allowed. As you can see from the screenshot, there are some control buttons on the left hand side of the documents.
This Online File Viewer actually convert the PDF and PostScript documents into image and display to the users. These documents are keep in the server and will be deleted 3 days after the last view.

Adobe had launched its free web-based photoshop – Photoshop Express, which is free and let users to edit photo online.
Adobe had use “Express” for the free version of Photoshop, which i felt a bit similar with Microsoft’s free version of Visual Studio which called Visual Studio Express Edition. Basically, Photoshop Express is not only a web-based photo editor, it is also a place for users to store and share photo.
Although we can’t expect Photoshop Express to has same function with Photoshop CS3, but at least Photoshop Express provide the basic tools for users to edit photo and share it with friends. After you create your account, you will be given a subdomain http://username.photoshop.com, and also 2GB of storage.

Another interesting feature is that Photoshop Express allow users to directly load image from Facebook, Photobucket, and Picasa for edit. After finish edit the image, users can choose to email it to friends or get the direct link to the edited image.
Although there are a lot of similar service which start earlier than Adobe, but i believe Adobe manage to fight them as Adobe is a well-known company which focus on Image processing.

goWebtop provide a flash based email service for users. The interface is very familiar with out desktop mail client.
goWebtop beta comes with a very familiar interface, but built with flash technology. When i first log into my account, i feel that the interface is similar with my Yahoo! Mail interface. It is a Web 2.0 application which built with flash technology.
goWebtop comes with mail, contacts, and other applications that can work together. No plugin/software needed as long as your computer installed with latest flash plugin.

After register, you will get a 1GB email storage and your email account is username@gowebtop.com. I really like the interface. You can easily create folders and manage your email messages. Currently, goWebtop still in beta mode and there are some bugs/issues that they haven’t fix.

SafePasswd is an online service which can create a random and unique password for you.
Password is the most important thing for us. We need password for our email, social account, Windows login, and even our forum account. So, we need a unique and strong password so that others can’t crack our account by using methods such as brute force or guessing.
SafePasswd can generate a random password for users and the generated passwords are very complicated. Users can set the length and the type of the generated password. There are 6 types of password :
- Easy to remember
- Letters (A-Z)
- Numbers (0-9)
- Combination of letters and numbers
- All characters
- Hex (which is most secure)
By default, the use uppercase and lowercase is checked. You can uncheck it if you want an easy-to-remember password.

You can press the New Password button a few times until you get a satisfied password. Note that the password strength also being displayed. This is very important because a weak password can be crack easily by other people. Please select your password length to around 8-10 because a long password is hard to remember. I recommend you choose 8 for length and choose Letters and Numbers for the Type and uncheck the Use Uppercase and Lowercase. Such password is very sufficient for a normal user, really, believe me.

You can view the complete applications list here. User can create a single-sign in for services which use frequently, such as Google Docs. They provide a ftp fr each user so that they can download/upload anything easier. For browsing and email, G.ho.st comes with its own browser and email client which has a pretty interface. The screenshot below shows G.ho.st browser application:

G.ho.st is still in public alpha and it takes long time to load the application. But, its interface really attract me. Although it provide a lot of applications and services, but it is too few compare with desktop applications. I hope that they can try to integrate as many as online applications in future.
