RAMBack is a Firefox extension that can clear the internal cache memory for Firefox 3, release the unuse memory space for other applications.
A lot of Firefox 2 users complain the memory usage for Firefox 2 is too high, which cause other applications to run slowly. Although Firefox 3 seems to be load faster and consume less memory, but it still can’t fully release the unuse memory. For example, closing unwanted tabs doesn’t fully recover the memory.
So, we need extension which can clear those cache memory. After install the extension, you can press the “Clear Cacher” options from the “Tools” menu.
I wonder why Firefox developer don’t include this feature in Firefox 3? Although RAMBack extension does help us to free up the unuse menory, but we still need to manually press the “Clear Cache” button. I hope that the extension author can try to make this automatic clear the cache whenver any tab being closed.

7-zip is a popular free zip tool for us. Unfortunately, the icons are pretty dull for me. So, i decide to patch them with more interesting icons.
Before you start, you need to know the path to 7zip. Normally, it is “C:\Program Files\7-Zip”. After that, you need an application called “Resource Hacker”, which is free. You can download Reosurce Hacker from here. After you prepare everything, lets start to modify the icons.
Steps 1
Open Resource Hacker. Click File -> Open. Browse to your 7zip folder. Mine is “C:\Program Files\7-Zip”. After that, choose “7z.dll” and click Open.
Step 2

Expand the Icon Group. You will get around 16 nodes.
Step 3
Expand the first node (0). Click “1033″. You will see the 7zip icon appear. Right click “1033″ and choose “Replace Resource“.
Step 4
Click “Open file with new icon” to select your icon file.

Step 5
After that, You can select icon to replace from the right listbox. Press “Replace” when done. Repeat this step to change the other icons.

Link Alert is a Firefox plugin which will change your mouse cursor when you point to a link, so that you will know what you are going to open/download after click the link.

This simple plugin will show you a small icon when you move the mouse over a link. Although Firefox will show the link details in status bar, but this plugin will let you know more details. For example, you will know the filetype that you are going to download.
You can also customize the link icons with image that you familiar, or add any specific file extensions. This lightweight plugin will not slow down your Firefox speed. I had tested it with my old PC and my Firefox speed remain the same before and after installation of this plugin.

Update Scanner is a Firefox plugin which will automatically scan and inform users about changes and update of a website. Users can add any websites to the monitor lists.
There are some websites which don’t provide RSS subscription, or you want to get update about the comment on article, but the author didn’t install “Subscribe To Comment” plugin. So, how are you going to get informed when there are changes on those website? View them everyday? Sure this is not a smart way.
Update Scanner can help users on this, by add a option to Firefox context menu. When you want to monitor changes on certain website, simply right click and choose “Scan page for updates” and you can set the scan frequency and threshold, so that you won’t get update too often.

If you would like to manually scan all websites in your list, you can go to Tools -> Update Scanner. A sidebar will appear and show you the list of websites that you monitor.
Tips: I would suggest that you set the Autoscan to a larger value, so that you can save your bandwidth for other usage.

But, do you really go back to those articles when you are free? No, because sometimes you can’t differentiate between articles that you had read and not yet read. So, there is a service called InstaPaper, which will can categorize your articles to read and unread, so that you can go back to those unread article in future.
Read it Later is a similar service, but it save the page inside your own computer. After install the extension, you will see 2 new buttons at the toolbar.

When you are free, press the right button and Firefox will pick the unread article from your bookmarks. There are few plugins that will help users to manage their Firefox tab pages. If you like to open more than ten tab pages at the same time, i think you need these plugins.
- Tab Mix Plus is a Firefox plugin which include a lot of features such as undo closed tabs, tab clicking options, and much more. The main feature that attract me is it enable multi-row tab display. Go to your Tab Mix Plus Options -> Display -> Tab Bar -> When tabs don’t fit width, choose Multi-row.
- Tab Scope and Tab Preview show a pop-up on tabs so that you can view the contents of the tab through pop-up.
- Vertigo moves the tab bar to the left side of the browser. It is recommended for users who open a lot of tab pages at the same time.
- IE Tab let users switch between IE and Firefox engine with single click. Some websites are only compatible to IE, but you may wish to use Firefox to open it. Click on the Firefox icon at the bottom-right corner to switch to IE engine.
- Tab Groups is a Firefox plugin that let users organize tab pages into groups.
- Send Tab URLs add a File menu command so that you can easily create an email message which contains the list of open tab URL. You can use this plugin to share URLs with your friends.
- FaviconizeTab adds option to the context menu so that you can minimize the width of the tab to the size of favicon.
Conclusion
There are too many plugins to manage your Firefox tab pages. But, i don’t think you need all of them. Choose 1 or 2 that suite your needs. Install too many plugins will slow down your Firefox speed and it may crash your Firefox if these plugins are not compatible to each others.
If you wish to have multiple feature in single plugin, go for Tab Mix Plus.
