How to fix Wordpress 2.5 image upload issue

Posted on the April 4th, 2008 under Blogging, Tutorial, Wordpress by dicky

I had upgrade my blogs to Wordpress 2.5, but i found that i can’t upload any image through the new AJAX image uploader. After i search through internet, i found this post, which teach user how to fix this problem.

I believe most of the Wordpress 2.5 users will found this problem when try to upload image using the built-in image uploader, unless you use other blogging tools such as Live Writer.

Basically, this problem is due to the mod_security. The new image uploader has been rejected by mod_security. So, you had to modify the .htaccess file to disable the mod_security. This can be done to insert the code below to your .htaccess file:

<IfModule mod_security.c>
<Files async-upload.php>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</Files>
</IfModule>

This is just a temporary fix, i hope Wordpress team can solve this issue as fast as possible. Wordpress users, please upgrade once Wordpress team release new version to fix this problem.

      Thanks for the tip. I’ve been putting off upgrading for the past couple of days, but think that I’ll be giving it a try this weekend.

      @Rob Schultz: it is better to upgrade your Wordpress to the latest version, as it add more features and security.

      @Wing Loon: May i know how you upload your image? Or you host your image at other website?

      Argh, I just upgraded to 2.5.1 having gave 2.5 a miss. Still, I’m having problems with it’s Ajax image uploader. It crashes my Firefox everytime an image is uploaded.

      I’ll try modifying the .htaccess file but like you said it, WordPress had better fix it soon. I can’t believe one of the most important feature such as image uploading has such a severe bug.

      @MyDeskBlog.com: Perhaps you can try other blogging tools such as Windows Live Writer to temporary solve your problem. Hope the Wordpress team can solve this problem quickly. Even though i manage to fix this problem by modified the .htaccess file, but after i upgrade my Firefox, seems like the problem still occur, but not frequently…

      Using WP 2.5.1, uploading images is a lot better with Firefox 3 (Kubuntu Linux OS). It is still slow and unresponsive, but overall the flash media uploader now works for me.
