Dr.Web CureIt - Free portable antivirus
Dr.Web CureIt is a free antivirus and antispyware utility based on Dr.Web antivirus scanner which can scan quickly and cure any infected system. You can run CureIt immediately after download, no installation required!
Every single computer need antivirus to get rid of virus, spyware, or malware. So, it is good that if you can bring along your antivirus application and save into your USB flash drive. You can also refer my article about Prevx CSI online malware scanner which is also a portable spyware/malware scanner that use database from their online malware center.
But, not all antivirus are portable! Some need to be installed to system folder and some of them required very large space! Here come Dr.Web CureIt, a free antivirus from Russia, which required no installation and has very small file size(8MB). The 8MB application contains the most up-to-date virus database which is update frequently. It can detects and removes virus, malware, spyware, internet worms, keyloggers, malicious scripts, trojans, and etc.
Once you download the latest application, you can launch it without any installation. When you launch the application, you can either choose Start or Update your application. This is shown at the screenshot below:

Dr.Web CureIt always come with latest virus database but does not include Dr.Web Automatic Updating utility. So, if you want to get latest version which include most up-to-date virus definition, you must always click the Update button and download the application from their FTP server. If you press the Start button, Dr.Web CureIt will start running as shown at the screenshot below:

There are 3 scan modes:
- Express scan: Only scan certain part of your computer.
- Complete scan: Scan through all drive and files inside your computer.
- Custom scan: Specify which folders or drives that you want to scan.
After the scanning completed, you can either cure, rename, move or delete the infected files. You can even view the scanning statistics which will list out files being infected and actions towards them. Although Dr.Web CureIt is a free application, but i believe that it is a very powerful antivirus and can compare with some commercial antivirus. Furthermore, it is portable and you can bring it along and save into your USB flash drive!
Visit Dr.Web website and download CureIt now!

Interesting. I didn’t know that Dr. Web has a client application for single PC. I always though that they are only into Windows / linux server security.
I had not heard of Dr. Web until now, have you tried testing any of the other free anti virus programs? Like AVG etc?
Maybe do a comparison on your site.

@Kirk: I not really compare Dr.Web with other antivirus. But i like Dr.Web because it is portable. I believe you can install both AVG and Dr.Web together on your computer.
Thanks for this info cos i hav really been looking for a free ani virus that can deliver and going by your post i think this would do something reasonable.

Hi - I think I’ll just make a note of it for the time being and suggest others be careful. I’m pretty suss about something that can hold all program files and known virus definitions in 8 megs. The fact its free, that it comes from a russian site makes me wonder whether there’s a hidden cost ?

Ive never heard of it, I’ll check it out, thanks.
